Abstract
In this research, we have developed a simple, mild and efficient method for the synthesis of symmetrical triarylmethanes derivatives via Friedel-Crafts alkylation of electron-rich arenes with trialkyl orthoformate in the presence of Bi(OTf)3 (10 mol%) as catalyst under neat condition at room temperature. The reactions proceed smoothly to produce the corresponding symmetrical triarylmethane derivatives in moderate to high yields.
