Abstract

The methanol extract from the twigs and stems of Clerodendrum  serratum,  upon chromatographic separation, yielded one new compound [bauer-9-en-3-one (1)] and three known compounds [spinasterol (2), spinasteryl-β-D-glucopyranoside (3) and sucrose (4)]. All structures were determined by 1D (1H and 13C) and 2D (COSY, HMQC and HMBC) NMR spectroscopic data. For known compounds were compared with those reported in literatures. Three compounds (1, 3 and 4) were isolated for the first time from the twigs and stems of C.  serratum. Keywords :  Clerodendrum  serratum, Verbenaceae, triterpene, steroid
