Study on Behavior of Participation in Solid Waste Management of Burapha University Sakaeo Campus’s Students and Personnel

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the quantity and composition of solid wastes by quantitative surveying of 7 consecutive days in October 2015 and 2) study on behavior of participation in solid waste management of Burapha University Sakaeo Campus’s students and personnel. This study employed the questionnaire and randomized a sample group size 309 as specified by Taro Yamane formula. The statistical instruments used to analyze the data were frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The t-test and one way ANOVA were used in analysis and comparison.  The results showed that there were 57.70 kg/d, and 0.04 kg/c/d of the solid waste average quantity and production rate, respectively. The compositions were plastics and foams 27.84%, followed by general wastes 24.47% and food wastes 15.77%, respectively. The study on behavior of participation in solid waste management indicated to the students and personnel had the knowledge of solid waste management and behavior of solid waste management at high level, while, they expressed their opinions on Burapha University Sakaeo Campus waste management moderately. The comparison factors affecting waste management behavior, we found that the different of genders, ages, and occupation affected the knowledge of solid waste management and the behavior of solid waste management at significant level of .05 whereas levels of education were no affecting. Factor affecting the opinion on Burapha University Sakaeo Campus waste management had no statistical significance at .05 by genders, ages, levels of education and occupation. The information obtained from this study will be used as the basis to determine the suitable managerial proposal of solid waste management of Burapha University Sakaeo Campus.                   Keywords : solid wastes, solid waste management, behavior
